How to Reset a Dolphin Pool Cleaner Safely
To reset a Dolphin pool cleaner, power it down, clear basic obstructions, and restart it. The exact reset depends on the Maytronics model and power supply.

Resetting a Dolphin pool cleaner
A reset is the way to go if you need to put an end to a problem and get your Dolphin back to a normal cleaning cycle. But there is no one-size-fits-all approach with Maytronics Dolphin models; the procedure will vary according to the cleaner, its power supply and the controller in use. Should the unit refuse to start, the manual is your best reference for troubleshooting by symptoms.
Precautions before a reset It is wise to rule out the obvious first. A reset is of little use if the cleaner has a simple blockage or connection fault. Before proceeding:
- Shut down the pump and cut the power before you handle the unit.
- Take the Dolphin out of the water to have a proper look at the body and filters.
- If the filter basket or cartridges are full of debris, clean them out.
- Give the cable a once-over for any tangles, twists or damage.
- Verify the robot is fully connected and the power supply is secure.
Should the Dolphin be unresponsive, displaying error codes or stuck in the middle of a run, it could be a mechanical matter rather than an electronic one.
The step by step process Unless the manual for your particular model points to a different method, follow this sequence:
1. Disconnect and switch off the cleaner. 2. Allow the system to power down completely for a moment. 3. Clear any debris from the impeller area, intakes and filters. 4. Put any parts you have removed back in place. 5. Restore power and hit start for a new cycle.
Be aware that some Maytronics units rely on a controller light pattern, an app or a timer in lieu of a reset button. For a S200 or similar with a dedicated control box, stick to the instructions for that model.
Troubleshooting a non-responsive unit If the Dolphin will not move after you have done a reset, work through these in order:
- Is the power supply actually receiving power?
- Check the blue cable for disconnection or severe twisting.
- Clogged filters and a blocked impeller are common culprits.
- Note any odd noises or blinking lights.
- You can try another outlet if the setup is dry and safe and the manual permits it.
Keep in mind that a robot can also stall under the right conditions, such as low water levels or an overabundance of debris in the pool. More maintenance may be in order before the cleaner will perform as expected.
Know when to stop There are times when further tinkering is not advisable. Call Maytronics support or a pool professional if you come across:
- Any sign of water intrusion, sparks or a burning odour at the power supply
- Damage to the plug, cable or control box
- Error codes that persist after a basic clean
- The Dolphin halting on every restart
Never open up sealed electrical components or make repairs beyond your qualification. And do not swim in the vicinity of the cleaner or power supply if there is any question of an electrical fault. Wear the appropriate PPE for dealing with dirty filters and heed the safety labels in the owner’s manual.
Nothing happens? In the event your robotic pool cleaner does not respond to a reset, the trouble likely lies with the power supply, cable or controller, not the robot. The prudent course of action is to make note of the symptoms – any blink pattern, blue light or code – and put in a call to a service technician for diagnostics specific to your model.
