A Simple Skimmer Basket Care Routine
A quick routine for keeping pool circulation moving and catching debris early.
Turn off equipment when your pool manufacturer instructs you to do so before opening a skimmer. Lift out the basket carefully, keeping loose debris from falling into the opening. Empty leaves and rinse the basket with a hose; look for cracks or a damaged handle before replacing it.
During heavy leaf fall, check the basket more often than usual. A full basket can restrict water flow, while a broken basket may allow larger material toward the pump. Check your pump strainer basket separately according to its manual.
Replace the basket with a compatible model rather than choosing by appearance alone. Measure the rim and depth and confirm the part number where possible. If circulation seems weak after cleaning the basket, follow your pool equipment troubleshooting guide or consult a qualified pool professional.
